Applying for a Place

Pre-consultation

Parents and carers are welcome to contact us to discuss a young person’s individual needs and to learn more about the unique environment of My Oasis Therapeutic Alternative Provision (TAP) and Independent School. However, most of our referrals or consultation requests are made by a student’s mainstream school or their LA.

If as parents and carers you would like to name My Oasis on your child’s EHCP, you must inform the LA and request My Oasis as a parental preference. This generally ought to take place when your child’s EHCP is being reviewed or amended, or alternatively when your child is getting an EHCP for the first time.

Formal Consultation

The admissions team at My Oasis will review the referral form and required paperwork to ensure that we can meet the needs of each young person, being guided by their parents and carers, their current educational establishment, LA representatives, as well as any relevant external agencies involved in the referral. The admissions team will then respond to the relevant bodies as to whether we can offer an assessment, along with providing guidance to those parents and carers whereby we feel your child’s needs cannot be met at My Oasis.

Assessment Stages

An initial assessment will be arranged between you, your child and a member of staff at My Oasis either on a face-to-face basis or online. This is to enable us to begin to understand how things have been going for your child and why you would like them to attend My Oasis as their next educational placement.

Further information will be gathered as part of the assessment with your child’s current educational placement, whether this be the mainstream school they are on roll at, a tutoring company, an alternative provision or specialist school, as well as an external agency involved in supporting your child. This stage allows us to obtain valuable insights about your child and collectively evaluate whether My Oasis is the right school for them.

Where possible, the assessment process will involve completing an observation of your child in their current educational setting. This will be to begin assessing their behaviours, interactions and engagement within a classroom setting.

The final stage of the assessment process will involve you and your child coming into My Oasis to meet with a member of the management team in school. This will involve you completing any final forms required, as well as allow for your child to see how My Oasis operates on a day-to-day basis.

Further visits to My Oasis can be arranged as part of the assessment process therefore please contact us for further details if this is required.

Placement Decision and Transition

Once an offer of a place has been made, a letter and SLA will be sent to the relevant bodies involved and a transitional plan will be put in place for your child. This plan will be different for each student referred to My Oasis as it is based on a student’s individual needs and dependent on their current engagement and motivation towards education.
