At My Oasis we provide a student-centred, flexible and appropriate curriculum to KS3 and KS4 students, ensuring each young person has access to high-quality, personalised education. The therapeutic provision acts as a positive bridge back into mainstream education for students who often lack confidence in their learning and who have been disengaged in education for several months. My Oasis aims to unblock any potential barriers to learning by developing a student’s coping skills through the delivery of various therapeutic interventions, helping reduce any anxieties students have around their learning and developing confidence to help them re-engage in education. We offer a curriculum that enables students of all abilities to make progress, being flexible enough to be delivered over short or longer-term placements.
Students attend with us primarily on a part-time basis and are educated within their mainstream school for the remainder of the week, ensuring they still receive a full-time education. However, we recognise that some young people can struggle to return to a mainstream setting due to the length of time they have been absent from education or due to presenting with more complex issues. Based on the discretion of their mainstream school, some students therefore have the option of staying with us at My Oasis on a full-time basis, going on to complete their GCSE’s and transition to college, an apprenticeship or the workplace. All staff at My Oasis work to a nurturing, trauma-informed approach, focusing on empowering students to re-engage in their learning by developing both their coping and academic skills. Breakfast is offered to students as a way of encouraging socialisation with their peers and to practice some of the social skills learnt through programmes delivered at My Oasis.
Following a referral to the Therapeutic Alternative Provision (TAP), comprehensive assessments are carried out to help identity any barriers to a student’s learning which may be preventing them from engaging in mainstream school and/or making academic progress. These assessments provide a baseline and highlight any gaps in a student’s learning and which they may need additional support. Based on these assessments, students are set challenging and achievable academic targets in consideration of factors such as their age and key stage, their current attainment, prior attainment, as well as any tracking data provided on referral by their mainstream school. This ensures that students receive a tailored educational provision regardless of the stage they are at in their learning journey. At My Oasis we believe in a partnership approach and work closely with students, their mainstream schools, Local Authorities, as well as parents and carers to create a seamless support network, providing a detailed reintegration plan to help students transition back into mainstream school.
Beyond a strong academic foundation, our curriculum focuses on developing essential life skills and emotional intelligence. Designed to promote self-awareness, self-regulation, problem-solving, and effective social and communication skills, our program empowers students to navigate the complexities of the wider world. We celebrate all forms of progress and encourage a growth mindset that values effort, perseverance, and resilience. By collaborating with parents, carers, schools, and external agencies, and placing the young people at the heart of our mission, we aim to provide a positive and therapeutic learning experience. This commitment helps us continue to adapt and evolve our curriculum to meet the diverse needs of our students, ensuring that My Oasis remains a beacon of support and development.
