Transitional & Reintegration Support

Transitional & Reintegration Support

On returning to their mainstream school each student is provided with a detailed reintegration plan which specifies individual arrangements to support their transition, including any reasonable adjustments and further support they may need. During this time, My Oasis staff will continue to support students in school for several weeks, which will entail a combination of classroom observations, one-to-one support, the sharing with school staff of their PLPs and any assessments undertaken whilst at My Oasis, as well as more specialist support for school staff if required. Due to the close liaison held between staff at My Oasis and a student’s mainstream teachers, as mentioned we ensure the education delivered during a student’s placement with us is in line with that being covered by their mainstream peers. This is to help reduce any barriers and gaps to a student’s learning and to help aid with a smooth transition back into school.

Year 11 Transitional Support

Alongside the transitional support provided to KS3 students transitioning back into mainstream education, we support KS4 students in various ways with regards to their transition to further education, training or employment.

Year 11 students are provided with numerous opportunities at My Oasis to develop their skills through carrying out various work placements in areas of interest to them. Links are made with local businesses to ensure we can offer a wide range of vocational placements to meet all student’s interests and needs. Examples of which include students undertaking a placement in a hairdresser or barber shop, or carrying out a course in creative joinery to see if these are careers that they would like to pursue further. Providing a vast array of opportunities ensures that students can discover what they are interested in or feel passionate about, helping them to make informed choices and realistic decisions in terms of their future career path. We are also currently looking into working with local services who could provide specialist careers advice to those students who are still unsure of what they would like to go on and do when they leave My Oasis.

My Oasis staff and student mentors will support them with job searching, applications to college, study programmes, apprenticeships and/or traineeships. They will work with a student around developing their CV, support them in visiting potential work placements of interests to them, as well as assist KS4 students in visiting any colleges to help them decide which course is of interest to them. Staff will carry out role plays with students to help them practise some of the skills they have developed during their placement at My Oasis, using their social and communication skills to help with things like interview preparation. Staff will also refer students to specialist services and agencies where appropriate.

The comprehensive engagement and transition support package offered to year 11s ensures they can successfully engage in further education or training, having the skills and confidence to continue into a sustainable career pathway.
