Outreach Support

At My Oasis we provide outreach support to help bridge the gap between students and their learning. Therapeutic support is offered to both the young person and their parents or carers either at home or within their local community. This approach encompasses the trauma-recovery model and works on building a relationship with the young person prior to offering any therapeutic interventions to help re-engage them in their learning. The My Oasis outreach service makes use of a variety of strategies to help engage a student, ensuring the right approach is tailored to their individual needs.

This outreach support pathway has been developed to help support students who have become chronically disengaged in education due to various unmet needs. The outcome of the work is to move the young person along the pathway by helping to re-engage them in their learning through ensuring their psychological and emotional needs are met, moving forwards at a pace so as to not overwhelm them.

Strategies and approaches used throughout the outreach service are:

A thorough assessment of emotional, behavioural and academic needs as a baseline and to identify any gaps as well as barriers to learning.

1:1 mentoring with the young person outside of school and in a environment they feel most comfortable with.

Various evidence-based therapeutic interventions, many of which are trauma-focused and backed by a wealth of research.

Therapeutic support to parents, including mediation within the family.

Systematic family based support offered by specialist CAMHS therapists.

Access to attending skills-based groups to help young people learn skills to cope within a mainstream environment.

Academic support through access to 1:1 tutoring at home or within the community, as well as small group lessons provided by specialist and highly qualified staff.

Liaison with schools, external agencies where necessary, as well as with parents and carers on a regular basis.

Advice to school staff on differentiation to enable students to access the curriculum to reach their full potential. This can include individual behaviour plans provided for students if needed.
