Staff at My Oasis places a strong emphasis on the importance of keeping well physically, recognising the huge role this plays in positively promoting a young person’s health. We therefore offer various indoor and outdoor physical activities for students to become involved in, ranging from more general activities such as walking or hiking, to more specialist physical activities such as kickboxing, horse-riding and yoga. Weather permitting, students have previously taken part in activities such as climbing, mountain biking, forestry, paddle-boarding, as well as kayaking during their placements with us at My Oasis.
Our outdoor educational programme allows students to explore the local area with staff in a safe and supported way, helping them to appreciate the benefits of the great outdoors and find activities which are of interest to them. These activities not only aim to benefit a student’s health, but are designed to develop problem-solving, team-building, and social skills, as well as build confidence in a young person by encouraging them to push themselves out of their comfort zone by trying new things. Providing these opportunities also encourages young people to become more aware of any issues within their environment and how they can work together with the local community to help rectify any of these.
